On Saturday, in Atlanta, Georgia, 25-year-old Molly Seidel finished second in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2 hours, 27 minutes and 31 seconds to book her ticket to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics as a member of Team USA.
The University Lake (WI) graduate was running in her first marathon after a distinguished career at Notre Dame, where she won a Division I NCAA Cross Country title, and previously in high school, where she was a Wisconsin legend and set numerous records.
On Saturday, Seidel also became the first women to win a Foot Locker Nationals championship, an NCAA Cross Country Championship and earn a ticket to the Olympics in the marathon.
Cathy Schiro, a previous Foot Locker Nationals winner in 1984, qualified and competed in the Olympic Marathon in 1988 and 1992.
Back in 2011, MileSplit interviewed Seidel after her Foot Locker National Championship in 2011.
