Wyoming Track Classic Current Team List and Instructions

Hello Coach!

This letter is to remind you that the Wyoming Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches' Association (WYTFCCCA) will once again be hosting The Wyoming Track & Field Classic this season.  THE CLASSIC, as we like to call it, is scheduled to be held at Kelly Walsh High School on Friday, May 2nd.  Field events will begin at 4:00 P.M. on that day, while the track events will start at 4:30 P.M.

All Wyoming High School Track & Field results for the 2025 season are required to be posted on the MileSplitWY website.  The official individual event depth chart for THE CLASSIC will be maintained on this website.  To access this depth chart, coaches must go to the "Rankings" and "Outdoor Lists" section of MileSplitWY, click on "League" and then select "Wyoming Track Classic Qualifying" (which is listed under "Group").

We are asking each school to declare in the next week whether they plan to have their student/athletes participate in THE CLASSIC or not.  We do realize that scheduling, school activities, distance, and other issues do affect participation, but we need to know which schools should be included on the depth chart and which schools should not. WE NEED YOUR COACH TO CONTACT SCOTT SHAFFER (CODY HIGH SCHOOL) at sshaffer@park6.org to declare your school's intention to participate in THE CLASSIC as soon as possible.

THE CLASSIC depth chart will restrict any new additions at the conclusion of track meets on Saturday, April 26th.  Coaches are required to add The Classic to their schedule and enter athletes as they would for any other regular season meet. At that time, coaches will have until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 29th to make a final declaration of which events they want their athletes to participate in.  Each athlete will be restricted to a maximum of two (2) events at THE CLASSIC, regardless of the number of events they may be listed in a qualifying position on the depth chart.  We plan to invite the top eight (8) in each track event and the top nine (9) in the field events.  All ties for the ninth spot in the field events (ie. PV and HJ) will also be invited.  The potential utilization of a waterfall start will allow us to invite twelve (12) in the 3200 and the 1600.  We ask that you respect the integrity of this elite meet and only enter and declare your athletes in the events that they intend to participate in.  In past years, we have had athletes declare two events to then make a last minute scratch at the meet.  We understand that injuries can happen and this would be an exception to that situation.

This letter is also to ask for help with the administration of THE CLASSIC.  Those interested in helping with field events, track events, etc. should contact Mike Lashley of Lingle-Fort Laramie High School (mlashley@goshen1.org) or Sarah Walker of Buffalo High School (swalker@jcsd1.us) so they can put names on the worker list.  We are relying entirely on volunteers to make this event a reality, so any assistance you can provide to help secure helpers would be greatly appreciated.  If you have an athlete qualify, it will be expected that you (or another adult from your school/program) help assist with an event.

Please have your Head Boys' and Head Girls' outdoor track coaches notify Scott Shaffer of Cody (sshaffer@park6.org) about your intentions to participate as soon as possible so that he can glean THE CLASSIC depth chart.

We are excited to announce that we have secured Farm Bureau Insurance as our corporate sponsor for THE CLASSIC and we are fortunate that all 14 track and field events also have sponsors.

Each participant in THE CLASSIC will receive one bag tag to commemorate the event, and custom medals designed specifically for THE CLASSIC will be awarded to the first three places (Gold, Silver, & Bronze).  Each event winner will also receive a t-shirt!  Additionally, tri-blend t-shirts will be sold at the event for $20.00 and can be purchased by athletes or spectators.

We look forward to having your coaches and student-athletes take part in this All-Star event!
