Introducing Joshua Potts as the MileSplit West Editor

What's Up, West Region!!

I'm Joshua Potts, your new MileSplit West Regional Editor covering California, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Let's be real, this region is the most talented in the nation!! As someone who's competed across it from childhood through college, I'm excited to continue to call it home.

Over the past eight years, I've carved a unique path in the running world that's led me to places my racing career never could. In 2018, I started the Running Report and the 2 Black Runners Podcast to amplify and represent unheard voices in the sport. Since then, I've been privileged to cover events like the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, World Athletics Championships, The Prefontaine Classic, Nike Nationals, Grand Slam Track, and more. During this time, I earned my Journalism degree from Cal State Fullerton and focused on honing my Broadcast skills on ESPN+.

Growing up, Track & Field has always been at the center of my life because I followed the footsteps of my three older brothers, who all competed at the collegiate level. I would like to think we made something of the "Potts" name in Southern California throughout the club and high school ranks. We all attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where I was the only one featured on a MileSplit Workout Wednesday. I'll hang onto that and my team's Nike Cross Nationals berth, even though their PRs crush mine.

I also ran at Cal State Northridge and Mt. SAC, and later coached at Norco High School alongside my Dad. This was a full-circle moment since he coached my brothers and me growing up. Coaching and content creation have entirely transformed my love for the sport and helped shape my goals as the new MileSplit West Editor.

I aim to help young athletes and those who support them fall in love with track & field and cross country. These four years are pivotal, and I hope to inspire these athletes for whatever lies ahead when high school ends, whether that's the Olympics, boardrooms, law firms, research labs, classrooms, social media platforms, family rooms, etc.

I can't wait to showcase the incredible talent in this region through articles, rankings, interviews, video content, and more on the horizon. Let's continue to grow the sport we all love.
