2017 Arvada West Invitational: Siles Dominates Again

Varsity Girls: Another A West Party

Brynn Siles is fast. Very fast. A 17:29, even if it came on the Liberty Bell course last week is nothing to shake a stick at. With that kind of hype coming into Friday, the individual title was in doubt only as long as it took spectators to look up and see Siles. Once the starting pack had stretched out, there was no doubt who would be taking home the meet title.

Siles trounced the field, dropping an 18:09, and broke the course record held by Sydney Scott from Denver South in 2011 by 21 seconds. If a conversation is to be had about who is going to be this years 5A state champion, her name might be in the lead at the moment. Siles lead her Lightning team to a strong second place finish at 72 points. Sophomore Abby Jones followed not far behind in the team scoring placing 7th in 19:54.

The girls team title was not as obvious as the individual title, but it was not far from it. It is a given that teams can come to Stenger and assume that they are going to run fast, but if you want to go home with a team trophy, you are going to be contending with a long purple line whose origin is at the front of the race. Senior Claire Pauley kicked off the scoring for the wildcats finishing second in 18:57. Classmates Katie Doucette and Amber Valdez finished fourth and fifth in 19:24 and 19:33. Civianna Gallegos was 14th and Maya Fairchild was 29th. 54 points for the Wildcats. Game, set, and match. The Wildcat girls may be sharing a meet title with their boys team, but they currently have bragging rights around the team camp as they scored 29 less points than their boys team.
