Derick Peters, West Central (South Dakota)
Peters kept track of his summer training for MileSplit.com over the last few weeks. And so it's no secret, Peters is headed for a very good senior year in South Dakota -- likely nationally, too. Last year's state champion scored a PR of 14:57.18 at the Lennox Invitational a year ago and later went into the spring and posted another state title in the 3200m with a time of 9:40.87.
So far in 2017, Peters has gone a US No. 15 effort of 15:08.90 at the Augie Twilight meet in on the Yankton Trail Park course in Sioux Falls, and won the Nike Heartland Pre-Regional in 15:15.52. He's won every single meet he's entered. And it seems it's only a matter of time before South Dakota's best dips under 15 minutes.
