Emily Covert Breaks All-Time Minnesota Record In 3200m
- - -
Emily Covert came into Minnesota's Class AA Championship 3200m having posted a time under the state record at sectionals, so the only question was whether she would do it again.
The Minneapolis Washburn junior didn't disappoint.
Covert raced to an all-time state meet record and US No. 5 performance of 10:06.19, dominating the rest of the field by over 34 seconds.
Farmington junior Lauren Peterson, last year's winner, was the next closest competitor at 10:40.46.
Covert's time shattered the former record of 10:16.59, which was last accomplished in 2005 by Lakeville's Elizabeth Yetzer.
