Top 7 Girls Events To Watch At Great Southwest

Girls 100m

When: Saturday
Who:
Briana Williams (FL), Kynnedy Flannel (TX), Alexis Brown (TX), Kenondra Davis (TX)
Why: The girls 100m dash will be a classic Texas vs Florida matchup featuring some of the nation's best. There's no denying Northeast High School sophomore Briana Williams is the favorite here. She has big wins already under her belt from the FHSAA Outdoor State Meet and adidas Boost Boston Games. Her wind-legal PR of 11.13 from the Bob Hayes Invitational is the US No. 4 all-time mark and a 15-year-old world age group record.

There are several of the best athletes in Texas who are within striking distance of Williams and will be looking to run a strong race. Alvin's Kynnedy Flannel was the Texas Class 6A 100m and 200m state champion. She holds a wind-legal PR of 11.35 (+1.7) from the UIL Track and Field ChampionshipFort Worth Trimble Tech's (TX) Kenondra Davis and Mansfield Lake Ridge's (TX) Kelly Rowe will also be in the mix. They were the Texas State Meet Class 5A Champion and runner-up. Davis, who is only a freshman, has run an all-conditions 11.43 and will look to run well in her first-ever postseason meet. Kennedale (TX) junior Alexis Brown will also look to compete well as she was the Class 4A runner-up at the Texas state meet.
