Kya Jackson: What Cross Country Means to Me

What Cross Country Means to Me

I intend for this to be a series. All you coaches and athletes out there, if you (athletes) or your coaches (who have athletes) would like to be included, please email your responses to me at Wyomilesplit@milesplit.com. Please include a picture or video or both. This can be as long as you want,

Many people come up to me and ask why I run Cross Country and if Cerebral Palsy affects my running.  My response is that running defines me. I was born to run and be the best I can be. Life is not a sprint, but a marathon.  Even though it is very painful, I succeed because I train, both physically and mentally. I run every race even though it may not always be smooth.  Sometimes my body isn't functioning at it's best, but I do it anyway because I am stubborn and like to prove people wrong when they say I can't do it.  Yes, running hurts. I have done Cross Country since sixth grade. I initially did it because all of my friends tried it. After that first season, I almost quit; however, every season is a new season.  The following year I gave it a try again, and that season was much better. Every season continues to be better. I chose Cross Country because it allows me to run my own race and show the world who I really am.  I am not a quitter and refuse to let a physical challenge stop me.
