Girls Recap

It was a close finish for the girls race with Billie Castillo, a Titusville junior, and Margaret Ward, a Rockledge senior. Both finishing in a time of 19:36, these two were together from start to finish.

Following Castillo and Ward was Moriah Ross, a Junior out of Viera HS, who also broke the 20 minute barrier, with a time of 19:59.

Ward led the Rockledge girls to the overall team win. Rockledge had their top 5 in the top 13 of the race and all of the girls sub 21:15 for the 5k. In the steamy, summer weather, Rockledge showed depth and strength early this season.

Boys Recap

Gabriel Montague, a sophomore out of Satellite HS, was your boys champion running the fastest time of the weekend in 16:01. Prior to this race, Montague had run a PR of 16:30 at the Foot Locker South Regional. Coming off a strong summer of training, Montague looked to win the field with ease as he led most of the race.

Following Montague were seven boys under 17 minutes. Anderson Denton, a Lake Wales junior, and Justin Wilson, a Satellite freshman, finished second and third running times of 16:24 and 16:25.

Montague and Wilson led the Satellite boys to victory this weekend. Satellite had three athletes sub 16:30 and top five in the top 13 of the race. With the top three consisting of mostly of underclassmen, this team will be a tough one to beat this season. Having three athletes in the 16 minute range in early August is an accomplishment in its self, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.
