Montana State closed out the weekend at the Weber State Invitational with much of the same success they saw just one night before at the Utah Spring Classic.
Chantel Jaeger sealed a solid weekend of sprinting with a Big Sky qualifying time in the 400 in 55.80, as well as a season best. She also led off the 4x400, along with Lierin Flanagan, Paige Squire and Iris Hardarson, that combine for another 2014 top time of 3:47.62.
Kaylee Schmitz, taking part in her own breakout year, won the 1,500 with a time of 4:36.85 to punch another ticket for the Big Sky Meet, and a top time for the sophomore this year.
After a huge Friday night in the 5,000, Jenette Northey and Heather Demorest teamed up again, but this time in the 3,000 steeplechase. Northey took second in 11:03.91 and once adjusted for altitude, it will become a lifetime best for the freshman. Demorest crossed the line in third place with a time of 11:13.52.
The men's 1,500 marked a strong showing with a Cristian Soratos win with a potential Big Sky leading time of 3:50.58. Soratos' time marked a new PR. Grant Grosvenor came in fourth in 3:59.16.
The field events had much to be proud of following their day in Ogden, Utah. The men's hammer throw got back into their groove with Sean Ferriter leading the way. Ferriter unfurled a huge throw of 196-09 (59.97m) to win the contest and extend his new personal record by three feet.
The men's javelin featured a knock-out throw from Ty Bermes, the winner of the event, measuring 204-00 (62.19m), ten more feet that any of his throws this season. The Bobcats got help from Cody Clausen, coming in second place, with 198-02 (60.40m). Clausen bested his previous PR by almost 10 feet.
Following a Kevin Close victory in the triple jump, Matthew Tokarz supplemented MSU with a fourth place finish and a Big Sky qualifying performance of 45-03.75 (13.81m).
"We had a great showing this weekend," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "In several events, people really stepped up and flexed their muscles to get onto the Big Sky Conference scene. Even with less than perfect weather today, we still pushed forward, worked hard and had breakout weekend."
Bobcat Track and Field will remain on the road for another week for a full slate of high-octane meets in California. MSU will compete at the prestigious Mt. SAC relays April 16-18, the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 18 and the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 19.
